中文摘要: 本项目将围绕由两种单负美特材料(metamaterials)组成的复合结构中电磁波的非线性传播与调控特性开展理论与实验研究。研究工作主要包括以下三个方面:(1)由两种单负美特材料组成的异质结中电磁波的非线性传播特性及机制;(2)两种单负美特材料满足共振隧穿条件时,由两种单负美特材料组成的光子晶体中电磁波的非线性传播特性及机理;(3)两种单负美特材料不满足共振隧穿条件,由两种单负美特材料组成的光子晶体具有零有效相位带隙时,光子晶体中电磁波的非线性传播与调控特性。由于由单负美特材料组成的异质结及光子晶体具有不寻常的电磁波输运机制和调控特性,非线性的引入将会使由单负美特材料组成的非线性异质结及光子晶体呈现出不寻常的非线性特性。项目内容的研究,不仅可以加深人们对这些单负美特材料复合结构非线性特性及物理机制的了解,而且对由单负美特材料组成的非线性异质结及光子晶体的应用具有指导意义。

英文摘要: In this project, nonlinear properties of electromagnetic wave in composite structures made of single-negative metamaterials (SNM) will be theoretically and experimentally investigated. Our study will focus on the following three aspects: (1) nonlinear properties of electromagnetic wave in heterostructures made of SNM; (2) nonlinear properties of photonic crystals when the two kinds of SNM composing photonic crystal structures meet the resonant tunneling condition; (3) nonlinear manipulation of electromagnetic wave in photonic crystals made of SNM when the resonant tunneling condition is broken down and the zero-effective-phase photonic bandgap emerges. Due to special mechanism of electromagnetic wave propagation and manipulation, it is expected that there will exist unusual nonlinear properties in heterostructures and photonic crystals made of SNM. Therefore, the study in the present project may be important, not only for understanding the nonlinear properties of heterostructures and photonic crystals made of SNM, but also for applications of these composite structures based on SNM.
