中文摘要: 蓝相液晶因为其小螺距双螺旋结构而具有微秒级的响应速度,有望在新一代液晶器件中得到广泛应用。由于驱动能力低、磁滞效应、残余双折射、器件制造工艺复杂等问题使蓝相液晶器件难以实现产业化。本项目拟制备获得具有小螺距的稳定液晶材料体系-球状相液晶,构建具有微秒级响应速度、高光学效率、高驱动能力和高对比度的新型液晶器件。本项目拟研究:(1)获得宽温域稳定存在的球状相液晶材料的制备方法;(2)研究聚合物材料、染料和纳米粒子对其器件电光性能的影响,获得高对比度、无磁滞、无残余双折射和高驱能力的液晶器件结构;分析影响球状相液晶器件电光特性的各个因素,构建能够精确描述球状相液晶器件电光性能的物理模型;(3)研究染料掺杂和纳米颗粒掺杂(量子点材料)对球状相液晶热稳定性和光学性能的影响,探索球状相液晶内部的周期性结构。通过对球状相液晶材料及其器件特性的研究还可以培养青年教师和专业人才,促进我国液晶产业的发展。

英文摘要: Blue phase liquid crystal has fast response time owing to its double twist structure with small chiral pitch, has potential to be widely used in next generation liquid crystal device. However, several major technical challenges remain to be overcome before its device industrialization, such as low drive capability, hysteresis, residual birefringence, and the complex fabrication process of device. This project will propose a novel liquid crystal material system- sphere phase liquid crystal (SPLC) and liquid crystal device with microsecond response time, high drive capability, high optical efficiency, and high contrast ratio. The research focus on: (1) obtaining the fabrication method of sphere phase liquid crystal (SPLC) with wide temperature range; (2) studying the influence of polymer material, dye, and nanoparticles on the electro-optic properties of SPLC device, obtaining SPLC device with high contrast ratio, hysteresis free, no residual birefringence, and high drive capability; propose a physical model to accurately show the electro-optic properties of SPLC device by analyzing the physical parameters effect on the electro-optic properties of SPLC device; (3) studying the influence of polymer material, dye dopant and nanoparticles dopant (quantum dot material) on the thermal stability and optical properties of SPLC to obtain its internal periodic structure. This project can also cultivate young teachers and professional talents, facilitate the development of liquid crystal material and device industry by researching the properties of SPLC material and device.
